Farming is in our DNA
In 2011, a group of Hmong American farming families formed the Hmong American Farmers Association (HAFA) because we believed the best people to support Hmong farmers are Hmong farmers themselves and that we are all lifted up when those who are affected by an unfair food system lead the change we seek.
We formed with the mission to advance the prosperity of Hmong American farmers through cooperative endeavors, capacity building and advocacy.

Whole-farm planning is a comprehensive approach to managing a farm that considers all aspects of the operation—including land stewardship, financial sustainability, and environmental factors—to make informed decisions about the farm's future. It's a holistic planning process that looks at the entire farm as a system, not just individual components, to make strategic decisions. Since we purchased the HAFA Farm in 2022, we have been conversing with various stakeholders to develop a whole farm plan that will guide the HAFA Farm for the next 10 years. With the growing season finally behind us, today, our farmer-members gathered to talk about what they want to see on the HAFA Farm going forward. Thank you to Bruce Jacobson from the UMN College of Design and David Juliff of Be Civil, Inc. for co-facilitating today’s conversation and leading this important project. At HAFA, we believe every farmer should have access to tools like comprehensive farm planning.
